My name is Jhamar Youngblood and I am the founder of a centralized messaging app named Blastchat that we are looking to tokenize.
What’s Blastchat?
We are a multi purpose messaging app that allows our users to send mass messages to their most important friends, fans and customers via silent push notifications. When recipients reply they are replying to the sender and the sender only. Think BCC on email but for mobile. All blasts and chats are deleted after 24 hours to reduce our users digital footprint and to keep content fresh and updated. We are talking about the fastest way to communicate to large audiences in human history. Other features include Blastchat Marketplace which allows users to buy and sell things with each other, an AMA feature that allows users to take private questions form the community and a safety feature that allows people to send safety updates to their personal safety network with the press of a button. Today 56% of our users are active monthly and users open the app 11 times a day, on average. These numbers are both above industry average.
Blast Points
Instead of giving users informal benefits like followers, shares or likes, we created an internal points system that gives users points for simply using the app. We are looking to replace our internal point system with an ERC20 token that can be shapeshifted into Bitcoin. Users can socially mine Blast Coin that can be shapeshifted into Bitcoin and used as real life currency wherever Bitcoin is accepted.
Social Mining
The idea of social mining is simple; anytime people use Blastchat, they will be able earn Blast Coin. They will be able to use the basic Blastchat features to mine Blast Coin but there is one idea we are working on that is more promising. We are working on a social google drive of some sorts. Meaning people from all over the world will be able to upload content and earn Blast Coin based on the engagement they get from other users. Meaning the more people share and comment on your content the more Blast Coin you will receive.
Why Now?
There have been several economic paradigm shifts in our world. These paradigm shifts have allowed us to manage power and move economic life. I along with many other economist in the world believe we are in dire need of a new economic system. And history shows that in order to have an economic paradigm shift these three things must be in play:
- New communications technology
- New sources of energy
- New modes of mobility
Being that I am an obvious expert on mass communication there are two obvious examples of this that immediately comes to mind. The first was in 1800’s Britain.
New Communication: The steam powered printing press allowed publishers to print more efficiently and cheaply. Telegraph.
New Energy Source: Coal.
New Mode of Mobility: The steam powered engine and trains.
Something similar happened in America nearly 100 years later.
New Communication: Telephone allowed us to communicate at the speed of light. Radio and TV allowed us to share information with large audiences faster than any other time in human history.
New Energy Source: Cheap Texas Oil.
New Mode of Mobility: Cars
And almost a hundred years later we are in need of a new economic paradigm shift and the three forces to cause this shift are almost in play. Think about it:
New Energy Source: Solar power.
New Modes of Mobility: Self driving cars. Hyperloop. Sharing economy.
New Communication: Blastchat/Blockchain that connects the energy internet with the mobility internet and other IOT devices.
Why Us?
I’ve been using online communication software for 66% of my life. So in 2014 when I noticed how Facebook’s algorithms were severely influencing my newsfeed, I immediately started thinking of solutions. I quickly realized that the most important features on all social apps is the chat feature and the community. Since 1998 when I first signed up for AOL to early days of Twitter and Facebook; the ability to easily fire up an informal chat with the most important people in my life has always been a gratifying experience. So my first step was to think of an entirely new way to communicate. After analyzing the online communication space, I was inspired the most by one feature on email; BCC. Blind Carbon Copy allows you to send one single message to many people and have individual conversations with all recipients seconds later. Then came the name Blastchat. The idea was that you can blast out messages to your pre selected groups of friends, fans or customers and then have private chats seconds later with all recipients. After using Wechat for a year while in grad school I realized we can emulate their vision of building a super app that offers users many services. Our first feat was when we won a grant for $50K to build a safety feature in our messaging app. After that we added a Marketplace (Craiglist style) and an informative Ask Me Anything feature where hosts take private questions from the community for 24 hours. Our most important feature is our internal points system that rewards users for their participation. Unlike other social communications tools who only offer informal benefits we want to give real value to our users with Blast Points. We are also excited about a new feature we are working on called “Content” where users will earn value for the engagement they get through comments and shares of the permanent content they post. And we are looking to use Blockchain technology for our coins and to create a social google drive of some sorts that protects users content and data.
Many people are expecting the killer crypto app to be a new form of communication. And Blastchat will not only create programmable money but it also will provide users privacy and security without them even knowing it is there. We are currently looking for partners.
